List of Indian film actors, actresses, directors, producers who went to jail

The Indian film industry is often embroiled in numerous controversies. Actors, actresses, directors, producers, musicians, and singers associated with the industry have sometimes become embroiled in legal cases, resulting in jail terms. Here is a list of Indian film actors, actresses, directors, producers, musicians, and singers who have been jailed for one reason or another.

 

• Mr. Sanjay Dutt (Bollywood Actor) - Sanjay Dutt has served a five-year jail sentence for possessing illegal weapons. 
• Mr. Salman Khan (Bollywood Actor) - Salman Khan spent a total of 18 days in jail in 1998, 2006 and 2007 on charges of hunting a blackbuck.  He was released on bail a few days later.
• Mr. Rajpal Yadav (Bollywood Actor) - Rajpal Yadav was imprisoned in Tihar Jail in February 2026 for non-payment of a loan of ₹5 crore and bouncing a cheque. He was released on bail a few days later.
• Mr. Shiney Ahuja (Bollywood Actor) - In June 2009, Ahuja was arrested on charges of raping his 19-year-old maid. He was later sentenced to seven years in prison in March 2011. He was released from Arthur Road jail in Mumbai on May 3, 2011 after get bail.
• Mr. Vikram Bhatt (Bollywood Film maker and director) - Film director Vikram Bhatt and his wife were arrested by the Rajasthan Police on October 7, 2025, in connection with a ₹30 crore fraud case. Both were granted bail on February 19, 2026, and are currently free.
• Mr. Armaan Kohli (Bollywood Actor) - Kohli was arrested on August 28 2021, for possessing illegal drugs. In this case, after spending one year in jail, he got bail on 20 September 2022 and since then he is out on bail.
  
• Mr. Darshan Thoogudeepa (Kannada Movie Actor) - Darshan is in jail since May 2024 in a murder case. He is currently in custody and facing trial for the murder. 
• Ms. Ranya Rao (Kannada Movie Actress) - On March 3, 2025, Ranya Rao was arrested by the Bangalore police on charges of gold smuggling. She has been in jail ever since. 
• Mr. Tarun Raju (Telugu movie actor) - Tarun Raju was arrested on March 10 2025 in connection with the gold smuggling case with his friend and co-accused, Kannada actor Ranya Rao. Tarun has been in jail ever since.
  
• Mr. Srikanth (Tamil & Telugu Film Actor) -  Srikanth was arrested on June 23, 2025, by the Chennai police in connection with a cocaine case. He was later granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court on July 8, 2025.
• Mr. Posani Krishna Murali (Telugu Movie Actor) - He was arrested on Feb 26, 2025, for alleged provocative remarks against top Andhra Pradesh leaders. He was released from jail on March 22, 2025, after being granted bail. 
• Mr. Suraj Pancholi (Bollywood Film Actor) - Pancholi was arrested after actress Jiah Khan, whom he was dating, died in 2013. He was jailed for 22 days before being granted bail. In April 2023, a CBI Special Court acquitted Pancholi due to a lack of evidence after ten years of court battles.
